As promised, www.vocabvideos.com contains a plethora of short videos designed to help students learn new SAT words. You do need either a student or educator subscription but there are a few featured videos on the home page to get you started.

Reading Rockets Podcast

The Reading Rockets site has a multitude of free podcasts for educators about topics such as vocabulary, classroom management, and English language learners. The podcasts are typically less than five minutes long and feature actual educators and classrooms. "

Word Clouds

I've used word clouds quite a few times in my classroom. The most memorable way we used the word clouds was through the website wordle.net last year while studying the unit about Anne Frank and the Holocaust. Students listed about 10 words that they felt related to what we studied. Then they entered them into Wordle and came up with a design. This design was printed out and they colored the words with fabric crayons. I ironed the designs on to a large sheet and we made a banner with everyone's designs. The students were so proud of their work.
